The world of foodservice, it's a wild place, filled with seemingly endless crazes that will have you scratching your head. But there's one trend that’s caught our eye, and it's not for the faint of heart (or stomach).

We’re talking about the rise of giant portions and eating competitions.

From the seven-pound burrito challenge to the all-you-can-eat wing extravaganza, there's no shortage of ways to make people question their life choices. And don't even get us started on the hot dog eating contests. How many buns can one person eat in a minute before they start to question their sanity? We have heard of one burger joint trying to balance the scales by making participants run 400m between buns. Which seems to us more masochistic than beneficial.

But here's the thing: as crazy as these eating competitions might seem, they're also a testament to the power of food to bring people together. There's something undeniably fun about watching someone try to down a dozen burgers in under an hour, or cheering on your favourite local chef as they take on a spicy food challenge. And hey, if it helps to sell a few extra drinks and appetizers, all the better.

At the end of the day, it's important to remember that food is meant to be enjoyed. Whether you're indulging in a massive burger or watching someone else do it, there's something magical about the way that food brings us together. So go ahead, promote an eating challenge at your venue or serve that giant pizza. After all, there's always room for dessert.

Oh, and if you’re looking for somewhere to get your hotdogs – you can check ours out here. We promise their worth more time and enjoyment than being washed down with a glass of water, but that part is up to you…
